Do you smell gas? (Rotten eggs / sulfur)

Leave the house immediately. Do not flip light switches, do not use your phone inside, and do not start a car in the garage. Walk to a neighbor's house and call 911, then call SoCalGas (1-800-427-2200) or SDG&E (1-800-611-4372). Only call us after the utility company has cleared the property.

Step-by-Step Triage

Do this right now while we're on our way.

Water damage compounds by the minute. Taking these three steps before our technician arrives will save you thousands of dollars in secondary damage and mold remediation.

1

Shut off the main water valve.

Locate your main water shutoff. It's usually in the garage, crawlspace, or outside near the front hose bib. Turn the gate valve clockwise, or turn the ball valve lever perpendicular to the pipe. This stops the flow immediately.

2

Turn off the water heater.

If the leak is near or coming from your water heater, turn off the gas valve (to "pilot" or "off") or flip the electric breaker. Do not turn off the water supply to the heater if the tank is empty and hot, as this can damage the unit.

3

Protect your belongings.

Move electronics, rugs, and furniture out of the water's path. Do not use a standard household vacuum to suck up water (electrocution risk). Place towels at the base of doors to stop water from migrating to other rooms.

Triage Guide

What qualifies as a plumbing emergency?

Not every leak requires a 2 AM dispatch. Here is our clinical breakdown of what demands an immediate emergency response versus what can safely wait until morning.

Critical

Burst or spraying pipe

A pressurized supply line that has ruptured and is actively spraying water into your home. This causes thousands of dollars in damage per hour. Shut off the main valve immediately and call us.

Critical

Sewer backup in multiple drains

If flushing a toilet causes water to back up into your shower, or if multiple drains are gurgling and overflowing simultaneously, your main sewer lateral is blocked. Raw sewage is a severe biohazard.

Critical

Water heater flooding

If your water heater is leaking from the tank body (not just a valve), it is failing catastrophically. Turn off the gas/power and the water supply to the unit, then call for emergency replacement.

High

No hot water (vulnerable household)

If you have infants, elderly family members, or immunocompromised individuals in the home, a total loss of hot water qualifies as an emergency. We will dispatch a tech to restore heat same-day.

High

Slab leak (active foundation water)

If you hear running water under your floors, see unexplained warm spots on your tile, or notice drywall cracking near the baseboards, you have an active slab leak. This undermines your foundation.

Wait till AM

Single clogged toilet or sink

If you have a second bathroom or a functioning kitchen sink, a single clogged fixture is an inconvenience, not an emergency. Shut off the fixture's local valve and book a standard morning appointment.
