What Is Backflow Prevention?

A device that protects the public water supply — and your compliance.

A backflow prevention device is a mechanical valve installed on your property's water supply line that stops contaminated water from flowing backward into the public water supply. It's required by California code on all commercial properties — and most residential properties with irrigation systems, boilers, or fire sprinkler systems.

Without one, a pressure drop in the main could pull contaminants from your building back into the public water supply, potentially contaminating drinking water for an entire block. That's why LADWP (LA) and SD County Water Authority (SD) require annual testing.

Our Process

Test. File. Track. Forget about it.

Every backflow testing service follows the same process — so you never have to think about your next test until we remind you.

Step One

Schedule the test

Call or submit the form. We'll schedule your test within your water authority's testing window. If you're already our client, we automatically schedule based on your last test date and send you a reminder.

Step Two

Perform the test

Our state-certified tester performs the test on all backflow prevention devices at your property. Each device is tested for proper operation, pressure differentials, and seal integrity. Test takes 15–30 minutes per device.

Step Three

File paperwork

Test results are submitted directly to your water authority — LADWP for LA properties, SD County Water Authority for SD properties. You receive a copy of the test report for your records. Certification numbers included.

Device Types We Test

Every backflow device. Every brand.

We test all types of backflow prevention devices — from simple residential dual-check valves to complex commercial reduced pressure zone (RPZ) assemblies.

Commercial · Most Common

Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ)

The most common commercial backflow device. Two check valves with a pressure differential relief valve between them. Used for high-hazard applications where contamination could be life-threatening. Requires annual testing.

Commercial / Residential

Double Check Valve (DCVA)

Two independently operating check valves in series. Used for medium-hazard applications — fire sprinkler systems, irrigation systems, and boilers. Annual testing required.

Residential · Irrigation

Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB)

Common on residential irrigation systems. A single check valve with an air inlet valve. Annual testing required by most water authorities for irrigation backflow devices.

Commercial · Fire Systems

Fire Sprinkler Backflow

Fire sprinkler systems require backflow prevention to stop stagnant water from flowing back into the public supply. We test all fire sprinkler backflow assemblies — RPZ, DCVA, and OS&Y types.

Residential · Simple

Dual Check Valve

Simple backflow prevention device used on residential water heaters, boilers, and irrigation systems. Some water authorities require annual testing; others don't. We test them either way.

Repair / Replace

Failed Device Repair

If your device fails the test, we'll repair it on-site if possible — most failures are due to worn seals or debris. If beyond repair, we quote replacement and install same-day if parts are in stock.

Transparent Pricing

Flat-rate pricing. No surprises.

Every backflow test is $149 per device. Repair costs quoted before work begins. Maintenance contract clients get testing included free in Tier 02+ contracts.
